Should I? #
You should buy a server computer if you want:
- durability
- ability to turn the computer on and off remotely*
Explanation #
Server computers are generally built with better hardware as they are designed to run 24/7. Furthermore, some have great remote controlling features. I have been running the Dell T-340. It has a feature called iDRAC (Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller). This feature allows you to have full access of your server from anywhere in the world. It allows you to connect to it even if it is OFF so that you can power it ON, remotely. You can also pair this feature with NoMachine and no you never need to to physically be present to control your server computer after it is set up. NoMachine can also be setup on any computer running Windows, OS X, or Linux. NoMachine is free.
*There are other options to ‘wake’ a computer remotely when it is powered off. This is known as Wake on Lan. If you would like to use a desktop computer for your server explore this WoL info:
